Why do most of the inbred hillbillies in the South not pursue an actual education beyond high school?

Is it because they hate education in general, or hate learning? Or do they really think they'll be able to actually advance in their career with only a high school degree. Yes, there are exceptions, but let's stick with 98% of people not the miniscule exceptions.
